Is your faith bringing joy… or just following rules?
In this continuation of our study through the Gospel of Mark, we explore Mark 2:18–28 and a powerful contrast between religion and a real relationship with Jesus.
The Pharisees questioned Jesus:
Why do His disciples not fast like everyone else?
But Jesus responds with a deeper truth—His presence changes everything.
While religion focuses on outward rules, appearances, and rituals… Jesus brings something entirely new: a living, joyful relationship with God.
In this message, we explore:
• The true purpose of fasting and seeking God
• Why religion often becomes rigid, routine, and joyless
• The difference between happiness (based on circumstances) and joy (from the Lord)
• Why Jesus came not to patch the old—but to bring something completely new
• How legalism can turn faith into a burden instead of a blessing
Jesus also confronts the Pharisees over the Sabbath, reminding them:
“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”
In other words, God didn’t create faith to weigh us down—but to bring life, freedom, and joy.
This message challenges us to ask:
• Do I have religion… or do I have Jesus?
• Is my life marked by joy that others can see?
• Am I stuck in routine… or growing in relationship with Christ?
Because at the end of the day:
Religion burdens. Jesus blesses.
